Epilepsy Awareness Training

Course Details

This course is for all health care professionals who work in NHS, Health and Social Care settings to include Private Nursing and Residential homes supporting patients who suffer from epilepsy disease .The participants will be able to support patients in identifying the early warning signs and progression of the disease to diagnosis, the benefits of various evidence based treatments, monitoring side effects, promoting quality of life in line with current NICE Guidelines.

Course Aims

For CCT Skilled Trainers to deliver high quality accredited face to face training with practical skills sessions which is tailored to organisational need and policies. For CCT skilled Trainers to deliver training which fulfils the current Core Skills Training Framework(CSTF), current CQC and NICE guidelines.

Course Objectives

  1. Understand what is epilepsy
  2. Causes  and symptoms of epilepsy
  3. Investigations and the diagnosis process
  4. Risk factors associated with epilepsy
  5. Patient centred care/effective communication/ethics and consent and capacity and decision making process
  6. Responding to someone presenting with a seizure episode
  7. Types of seizures
  8. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions
  9. Side –effects of medication
  10. Incident reporting 
  11. Current Nice Guidelines

  2. The Causes  and symptoms of epilepsy
  3. Statistics in the UK
  4. The symptoms of someone suffering from the disease
  5. The investigations and the diagnosis process
  6. Other evidence based tests to establish diagnosis
  7. Risk factors associated with epilepsy
  8. Diagnosis and management of people with learning disabilities and suffer from epilepsy
  9. Patient centred care/Care planning/effective communication/ethics and consent and capacity and decision making process
  10. Responding to someone presenting with a seizure episode
  11. Types of seizures
  12. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions
  13. Side –effects of medication
  14. Understanding Deep Brain Stimulation
  15. Incident reporting 
  16. Current Nice Guidelines
