Course Details
This course is for all teaching professionals who work in Governmental and Private Learning Institutions to understand the causes and triggers of challenging behaviours .The importance of teachers or lectures in implementing positive behavioural strategies using verbal and non-verbal communication techniques facilitating good listening skills, non-judgemental, validation, de-escalation techniques and the importance of teachers and lecturers to remain professional by managing their own emotions and behaviours. Teachers and Lectures are expected to use their individual school behaviour policy and working collaboratively with families and other professional bodies and current updated educational policies around use of reasonable force.
Course Aims
For CCT Skilled Trainers to deliver high quality accredited face to face training with practical skills sessions which is tailored to organisational need and policies. For CCT skilled Trainers to deliver training which fulfils the current Core Skills Training Framework(CSTF), current CQC and NICE guidelines.

- Having an awareness and understanding of various types of challenging behaviours
- Causes, triggers and Influential factors of challenging behaviours (such as psychological factors )
- Gaining knowledge and awareness of how Learning Disabilities contribute to challenging behaviours
- Initial and functional assessment processes of challenging behaviours
- Associated risks with those presenting with challenging behaviours and ‘Kaplan’ Assault Cycle’ in relationship to physical and non-physical assaults
- Gaining knowledge, awareness and skills on how to safely remove on confiscate risk items and safely keep them in schools premises
- Gaining knowledge and understanding of a school behaviour policy and plan in managing challenging behaviours and how to deal with serious incidents of violence and property destruction
- The importance of safeguarding children following the school behaviour policy and the benefits of inter-agency networking to safeguard and manage challenging behaviour in schools
- Gaining knowledge, awareness and skills on the importance of how teachers manage their own emotions and behaviour in order to manage challenging behaviour well
- Gaining knowledge and understanding on how teachers respond to the seven phases of the ‘Escalation Cycle’ and how that is linked with ‘Prochaska and Di Clemente cycle of change in schools
- Gaining knowledge, awareness and skills of the importance of active listening, validation , effective communication and de-escalation skills
- The power of teachers in exercising discipline and how that is linked to each school policy and the law within school grounds and outside school grounds using reasonable force
