Syringe Drivers Awareness Training

Course Details

This course is for all health care professionals who work in NHS, Health and Social Care settings to include Private Nursing and Residential homes supporting patients who require medication via cannulation at a well monitored and controlled constant rate every 24 hours. The participants will deliver patient centred care empowering the patient by incorporating the principles of consent, ethics and capacity in the whole recovery journey in line with current practice guidelines

Course Aims

For CCT Skilled Trainers to deliver high quality accredited face to face training with practical skills sessions which is tailored to organisational need and policies. For CCT skilled Trainers to deliver training which fulfils the current Core Skills Training Framework(CSTF), current CQC and NICE guidelines.

Course Objectives

  1. To be able to gain knowledge on different types of syringe drivers or pumps and their function
  2. To be able to gain knowledge on ,the different components of a syringe driver and step by step preparation
  3. To be able to gain knowledge on ,various types of current evidence based treatments, symptoms and PRN Administration
  4. To be able to gain knowledge and skills on the process of needle replacement,re-loading ,changing and adding new medication
  5. To be able to gain knowledge on and skills on the daily management and monitoring processes of syringe drivers
  6. To be able to gain knowledge on and skills on the benefits and common problems associated with syringe drivers
  7. To be able to gain knowledge on and skills on the principles of consent,ethics,Capacity ,best interests and Advance Statements in syringe drivers treatments
  8. To be able to gain knowledge on and skills on ,Holistic Assessment ,Care Planning ,Patient-Centred Care and Co-ordinated Care
  9. To be able to gain knowledge on and skills on the benefits of effective communication and the impact of poor communication when supporting patients having syringe drivers for treatment
  10. To be able to gain knowledge on and skills on how to prevent relapse from patients admitted into hospital or moving into residential homes from the community or discharged back to the community

Course Benefits

This face to face course which provides learners with an in-depth insight and understanding of the use of various types of syringe drivers or pumps to deliver medication via cannulation at a well monitored constant rate. Learners will be able to gain knowledge and skills of the benefits and symptoms of various current evidence based pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, the principles of consent, ethics and capacity and how this influence the whole recovery process.
